Courses and trainings

The course is the teaching activity that enables a short-term basic professional training based on the needs of complementation and systematic updating of the professionals’ expertise for a better performance of their activities, as well as for their cultural heritage enrichment. The National Center for Animal and Plant Health (CENSA)  organizes courses and trainings for professionals devoted to the Agricultural Sciences  or others interested in learning about topics related to the Animal and Plant Health.

Annually offered courses

  • Methodology of the Scientific Research. Philosophical thought and advances in technology and knowledge for writing papers, theses and projects (3 credits).
  • Project Management. Project Cycle Methodology (PCM). Guidelines for project elaboration, evaluation methods, Project Design Matrix. (2 credits).
  • Biostatistics and Experimental Design. Designs of biological and agricultural experiments. Interpretation and analysis of cases: statistical inference, non-parametric statistics, multivariate methods. Use of the statistical packages SAS and InfoStat (4 credits).
  • Intellectual Property. Mechanisms and regulations for obtaining Patents, Trade Secret Protection, copyrights and others (2 credits).
  • Writing a scientific paper. Theoretical-practical Workshop where students learn how to write and revise a scientific paper. (2 credits).

Courses are scheduled on institutional request for groups of 5 or more students.

  • Molecular epidemiology and phylogeny in veterinary medicine.
  • Diagnosis of bacterial agents of interest to veterinary health.
  • Milk production and quality.
  • Toxic plants for cattle.
  • Molecular diagnosis of animal pathogens.
  • Advances in Biotechnology in animal health and improvement.
  • Animal emerging diseases.
  • Mycoplasma detection in biotechnological products.
  • Characterization and diagnosis of plant pathogens.
  • Disease management in crops of economic interest.
  • New trends in the study of plant-pathogen interaction for the genetic improvement of crops of economic interest.
  • Organic agriculture. The Cuban experience.
  • Microbial biopesticides and their use in biological control.
  • Population Quantitative Ecology.
  • Agroecology and Pest Management.
  • Entomopathogenic nematodes and their introduction into sustainable agriculture.
  • Design of new products from botanical origin for agricultural use.

These courses are practical-theoretical. They give an academic credit for each 48 hours. The teaching staff is composed of high scientific degree doctors (PhD), with national and international recognition.
